Upland mayor to challenge Thaddeus Kirkland in 159th
Upland Mayor Michael Ciach has announced his candidacy for the state House of Representatives.
Ciach, a Republican, is seeking to unseat longtime Democratic state Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland, of Chester, in the 159th Legislative District. Kirkland has held the seat since 1993.
Ciach has served as mayor of Upland since late 2005. Prior to that, he spent 12 years on borough council. Ciach has worked as an account executive at Ricoh Americas Corporation for 19 years.
Ciach made his announcement Saturday at the Marcus Hook Community Center. Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley was among the Republicans in attendance.
Kirkland serves as the Democratic chair of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee. He is the pastor of Community Baptist Church in Chester.
